The wine
A Tuscan wine variety that has been grown in Mudgee since 1920. di Lusso has the last remaining block of Alatico that is a descendant of the vines planted by Thomas Fiasci which were pulled out about 12 years ago. The variety hails from central Italy, notably the island of Elba, enjoyed by Napoleon when he was exiled there in 1814. A unique style from a rare variety.

Tasting Notes
Congratulations to the ancient Greeks who first propigated this iconic grape. Aleatico's more recent home is the island where Napoleon was incarcerated for ten months. "He tasted a sweet, ruby red wien that immediately cheered him up. He had discovered the Aleatico wien that would become his favourite tipple."
Produced from a red grape, Aleatico produces a bright ruby red sweet and subtly spicy wine. The nose is impressively delicate with notes of wild roses that merge with fruity aromas of cherries with lifted Turkish delight and rose water, spiced with cinnamon. Carries a palate of medium weight with delicate sweetness that is not cloying. Matches a wide range of dishes, from Reggiano and di Lusso's rosemary balsamic fig paste, to strawberry tart and of course its classic companion, di Lusso Chocolate Panforte.
Store it in the fridge once opened, it will keep for many weeks. May also be cellared for 10 years or more
